The Freedom Scientific Student of the Month Program features K-12 students living in the U.S. who are blind or visually impaired and use Freedom Scientific technology to achieve educational goals. The Student of the Month for September 2025 is Kenny, a tenth grader from Maryland.

Kenny uses JAWS on his school computer to navigate websites and complete school assignments. “I really do think it is the best screen reader of them all. I use it to navigate Schoology, our main learning platform, and access Google Docs, watch videos, and send email.”
Kenny’s favorite subjects are English and music, where he is learning to play piano.
After graduating, Kenny plans to pursue a career as a teacher of the visually impaired (TVI). “This has been my dream since first grade. After school, I attend a class at another school to learn how to become a teacher.”
In his free time, Kenny enjoys playing electronic games like Simon and Bop It, plus creating music using his digital piano. “Some people will consider having a disability like this a curse, but I also find slight blessings to it in the sense that you get an experience that no one else has. I can really understand and feel for those that are going through similar things.”
Kenny encourages all blind students to get the most out of the technology available to them. “When it comes to completing assignments, JAWS is an excellent resource. I do really see a lot of good to using JAWS, and I love learning this accessible technology to help people like myself.”
