Today, Joseph Tirrell, the former U.S. Department of Justice Senior Executive in Charge of Ethics, disclosed in an online post a letter he received on Friday from Attorney General Pam Bondi firing him without any stated reason. Bondi has been under fire for her own ethics conflicts, including her approval of her former client Qatar’s gift of a $400 million luxury jet to President Trump and the DOJ’s apparent dropping of foreign corruption investigations into Bondi’s former law client Pfizer. Public Citizen recently sent a letter to Congress requesting an oversight hearing into how Bondi has handled DOJ decisions related to Pfizer.
“Bondi’s sudden firing of the DOJ Ethics Advisor shines a bright spotlight back on her own glaring ethical conflicts and how she’s handled major DOJ decisions involving her former clients like Qatar and Pfizer,” said Public Citizen democracy advocate Jon Golinger. “The question this drastic firing raises is: are there even worse ethics problems Bondi is trying to hide?”
