After the inferno at Hong Kong’s Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po district claimed the lives of at least 151 people, an X account named RTSG News claimed that the owner of the firm that was responsible for the maintenance of the ill-fated project, Prestige Construction, was an Indian national, Irfan Razack.
On November 26, 2025, seven out of eight phases of the Wang Fuk Court were engulfed in flames, marking Hong Kong’s deadliest fire in a decade. The blaze was fully extinguished by the morning of November 28, after around 40 hours of relentless efforts by more than 2,000 firefighters.
The X account RTSG News, which claims to be “the only source that reports #RealNewsOnly”, posted two pictures, one supposedly of Irfan Razack and the other of the complex in flames. Describing the post as a “Report”, the user claimed that the firm that was responsible for the maintenance work at Wang Fuk Court, Prestige Construction, was owned by an Irfan Razack, an Indian.

Fact Check
First, Irfan Razack, whose photo is attached in the above post, is the CMD of Prestige Group, which is a real estate company based in Bangalore, India.

Whereas the firm linked to the Wang Fuk Court project is Prestige Constructions, a Hong Kong-based engineering company, contracted to perform maintenance work on the building.

They are two different companies, entirely unrelated.
It is also worth noting that according to Reuters, the two directors and an engineering consultant of Prestige Constructions had been arrested by the police under suspicion of manslaughter for using unsafe materials.
To sum up, Irfan Razack, the CMD of Prestige Group based in Bangalore, India, has no relation with the firm Prestige Constructions, the company contracted for the maintenance work on the building. The claim that an Indian-owned firm was responsible for the building’s upkeep is baseless.
