A few months ago, I shared how to create gradient borders, and how I used that technique to add the LGTBQ+ Progress Flag colors to my site for Pride Month.
Last week, I brought the Progress border back, and decided to make it permanent.
- The colors are fucking gorgeous!
- It’s BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) inclusive.
- Our LGBTQ, non-male, and non-white friends are more under attack than ever.
Is it performative? Absolutely.
But in times like these, when you have privilege like mine, it’s important to show your colors and let fascist losers know exactly where you stand.
Companies are rolling back protections for trans people. Same-sex marriage in the United States might get repealed nationally. Looking at a lot of the responses to this post from Black Aziz Anansi on Bluesky, Black folks feel less safe than ever.
So let me make this abundantly clear: if you support ICE or bans on trans folks in sports or increased funding for police or book bans or “Israel’s right to defend itself” while committing genocide or bathroom bans or “maybe vaccines do cause autism” or any other Fox news talking point…
You’re not welcome on my website. You’re not welcome in my Discord community. You’re not allowed to take my courses or hire me (it’s literally in my terms of service).
You’re not welcome here.
People use virtue signalling as an insult a lot. But the thing is, it’s good to signal your virtues, actually.
Normalize telling fascists to fuck off. Normalize making people in marginalized communities feel welcome and safe.
Signal those virtues. Show your colors.
