Hey everyone
,
I recently built something I wish existed when I was job hunting β
A resume builder thatβs completely free, privacy-first, and open source β called BuildMyResume.
Why I Built This
While searching for a good resume builder, I noticed most of them had a few common problems:
Forced signups just to get started
Tracking scripts and user data storage
Paywalls when trying to export
Locked-in platforms with limited control
There are some great open-source tools out there β but I wanted something simpler, fully client-first, and designed with privacy by default.
So I built one.
Key Principles
No sign up, no tracking, no cookies
End-to-end encrypted publishing (with AES + HMAC)
Nothing stored by default β unless you choose to publish (and that too is encrypted)
Editable preview to fix formatting visually
Pixel-perfect PDF export via Puppeteer backend
Mobile and desktop support
MIT licensed
Features
Form-based builder with real-time preview
Professional, ATS-friendly templates (15+ and growing)
Editable resume formatting with line breaks, direct edit
JSON export for backup
Reopen and edit resumes with encrypted links
Open source, MIT licensed, forever free
Try it out
Live App β BuildMyResume
Source Code β GitHub Repo
