From Breathing Space to Building: Why I’m Joining Continue as Senior Developer Advocate

In June, I wrote about taking time to breathe and explore new opportunities in AI tools. That exploration led me exactly where I needed to be:

x post on joining dev

I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve joined Continue as Senior Developer Advocate! 🎉

Finding My People

As I shared on a number of occasions, whether or not you thrive in a role depends on the people around you—your people. After going through a period of recalibration, I knew I needed to find a team where I could hit the ground running while having the flexibility to balance my priorities as a mom of four–and, surprise, I’m homeschooling one of my kids this year 🙃

Continue checked every box. I already knew I worked well with bdougie, I had the trust and flexibility I needed, and I’m genuinely excited about what they’re building and a user.

Why Continue Matters

As someone who’s spent the last few months diving into AI tools, I’ve seen both the promise and the challenges. But I appreciate Continue’s philosophy that AI should amplify developers, not replace them. AI is a force multiplier, scaling our ability to drive it.

Moving from teaching college English to working in tech, I understand the learning curve that comes with new technologies. Over the past couple of years, AI has genuinely transformed how I approach development and a lot of my life. I’m learning faster, building things I never would have had time to tackle before, and I’m doing it while still understanding the process and outcomes.

My Mission at Continue

I want to help developers not just learn how to use AI, but to know when and why. Anyone can follow a tutorial or prompt an AI tool, we really find success when we understand the context, the trade-offs, and the purpose behind its use. To me, this is the key to navigating this pubescent stage of tech. It’s a time of rapid change, awkward growth, and big potential. If we get this right, we’ll move toward a future where AI is a beautiful, deep, and thoughtful extension of our craft.

you're growing up

I know there’s healthy skepticism about AI coding tools, and that skepticism is necessary. But I’ve also seen firsthand how these tools can democratize access to building complex things, especially for developers who might have time constraints, who don’t have the mentors well-connected folks have, or are working outside their strongest skill areas.

Let’s Build Together

I’m here to learn as much as I am to share. I want AI to be the powerup that I wish I had in BootCamp. I want to feel like a mom who isn’t overwhelmed by the constant need to optimize her time to be productive. I want to feel like I’m automating the parts that don’t matter and optimizing for the meaningful moments in life. Call me a Pollyanna, but I think AI gets me a step closer to that.

We’re in a pivotal moment in tech, and I’m excited to explore best practices with a community that’s genuinely curious about doing this right.

Hit me up if you want to chat about AI-native development, open source sustainability, or how to balance efficiency with genuine learning. After months of exploration and breathing space, I’m ready to build some incredibly meaningful things.

This is going to be fun.
